How close can one approach fire before one is transformed rather than burnt?These trees eliminated that distance entirely: they reached zero. In that absolute proximity, they underwent an absolute transformation, sliding toward and ultimately ending in death. Yet they remain complete beings. Transformed beyond recognition, they appear from our perspective as nothing, burnt remnants, tokens of zero.
The installation emerges from my own need to approach that same threshold, to burn beyond recognition, to transform absolutely, and to kill the self that resides within me. I hereby confess my fear of that, so I may genuinely admire it, at least.
